An opportunity to offer your pupils direct contact with a slice of local history. The Skelton Workshops in Streat, just outside Brighton on the glorious South Downs offer tailor-made couses for schools linked to the national curriculum.
Our workshops offer an important local resource linked to the sculptors Eric Gill, John Skelton and Jacob Epstein.
Tutors are all professional letercutters and sculptors. There will be opportunities to meet the curriculum’s learning objectives. As well as offering children the opportunity to visit, see artists at work and walk in the beautiful sculpture garden, one of our sculptors, Jo Sweeting, is a qualified primary teacher and has been CRB checked. She will visit the school for follow-up residencies with children.Children will have the chance to draw and work with clay and plaster maquettes as well as see how the stone carving and lettercuttings are produced. Our courses can be organised to suit the varying needs of schools and of different pupil ages. Courses are suitable for Years 2 and upwards.
